Two Kinds of Green

Some_girls_2297_2
I really like pairing two variations of the same color together...and this stitchy, cropped cardigan and washed silk slip-dress seemed just right for this very Spring-y day. I dyed the slip myself about a month ago, and have been wearing it constantly in all its chartreuse glory!

And I set it off with one of the red bobby pins I was going crazy for over on the big blog yesterday (and my red button shoes).

Happy Spring!

Lovely Knee-highs

Sock Dreams has some really beautiful new knee-high styles right now, like these pointelle "Harajuku Lovelies" (which I'm obsessing over):

If you find any that strike your fancy, you should snap them up...things tend to go in and out of stock very often (and often they don't come back).

That shop is my kryptonite, I'm telling you!

Things to do with Vintage Lace + Doilies + things, Part 3

I bought these earrings last year from one of my favorite Etsy shops, KatinkaPinka:

I really love them, they are lightweight and very striking.
They are so beautiful in their simplicity, and I think it is a great notion to incorporate small doilies into jewelry!
I knew I had to include them in this "mini-series".

Kaite also makes wonderful skirts, necklaces and bobby pins.

Happy Sunday!

Things to do with Vintage Doilies + Lace + things, Part 2

The Doily Scarf:

This project was super-easy, and I am completely in love with it. I just sewed a bunch (10-15) of small-ish doilies together...zip, zip, zip. It makes for such a romantic, lightweight scarf...and it's so nice to use these doilies that I love as objects, but  would otherwise have no real use for.

I hope your week is going along nicely!

Things to Do with Vintage Doilies and Lace and Things, Pt. 1

I've been embellishing + making lots of things with vintage lace and doilies lately, so many that I thought I'd do a little "series" here on Some Girls Wander for the next week.

The first example is this ho-hum jersey babydoll dress that needed taking-in, and therefore was languishing in my "alter-or-trash" basket next to my sewing machine:

I had the bird embroidery (also thrifted) in a little frame, but I decided it would be very nice if he could be portable.

So I "framed" him with some nubby, antique crocheted lace.

Pretty Ebay Dresses

I was browsing around Ebay for some vintage, velvet frocks a few nights ago, and I came upon two really perfect specimens:

(Photos: Ebay Seller's own)

This dress is SO perfect. The color is my favorite green...and the lace color and cuffs?
Its fatal flaw (for me) is that, of course, being a vintage dress that I want, it is super-small. I loved it so dearly, though that I had to really restrain myself from buying this dress and then scheming up a way to add a 10 inch fabric panel to the back. The bidding is long past, but here is the listing.

And then there's this one:

(Again, Photos: Ebay Seller's Own)

Again, it's teeny-tiny. But just so darn perfect!
The color (again!)
The collar! The little bow!
Listing here.

I'm stashing images of both of these in my inspiration folder, for certain. Not inspiration to be tiny, of course...inspiration for designing and painting.  :)

Max Studio

Oh, second blog. You're being neglected!

There are such beautiful dresses on sale at Max Studio's webshop that I thought it was my duty to point a few out:

Unfortunately, this one is not on sale (and more crushing still, seems to only be available in size Small):

I forget that website exists, and then once a year rediscover it and flip out all over again over the amazing sale sections!

Happy Monday :)

Curious Blue Dress

This dress is my current favorite.
Some_girls_1957

It's a bit of a collaboration between the lovely Sveta Darling on Etsy and myself (99% of it is all her, I only sewed the collar and mustard-y bow). It is stitched out of a beautiful deep blue velvet, and is so comfy and lovely.

I coffee-stained the cuffs for good measure, and they look antiqued and sweet:

Something about the dress reminds me of Dusty Springfield (or someone like Dusty Springfield).

Red Candy Buttons Make Everything Prettier

I got this pretty empire waist cream/grey striped sweater from the great Target maternity section (I don't even feel wierd about shopping in there anymore...that stuff if often 10X cuter than the non-pregnant-lady clothes!).
I bought the small and still had to take it in a little bit, so while it was in my studio, I decided to jazz it up a little bit.

A little contrasting thread, these buttons that look just like M+M's and we've got an even cuter sweater on our hands.

Boudoir Queen

Some of you may already know of this beautiful and decadent Etsy shop, Boudoir Queen. They make beautiful cuffs, lovely hand-dyed garments, and now they are making pretty dainties, too!

I have been on the lookout for just the perfect thing from them, although it could all be perfect (if it were the proper size).
Many of the product photos filling their shop are really lovely, too:

It makes me so happy to see, slowly but surely, more apparel designers that make really lovely, unique things creeping into the Etsy world!
